What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Pioneer PL-115D

 Pioneer PL-115D
Auto-Return Mechanism Turntable with Precision 4-Pole Synchronous Motor.
Pioneer's PL-115D is a prcision turntable solution for the audiophile who seeks key automatic functions along with outstanding tonal quality from record reproduction. Durable, quiet, crafted with typically long-life Pioneer workmanship, the PL-115D features a speed-detecting auto-returnmechanism that returns its tonearm to rest smoothly even with a warped record, a sensitive S-shaped pipe-arm with anti-skating device, and a howling-free floating cabinet constructed free of resonance. There are many more features, too. The belt-drive system employed in the PL-115D uses a 4-pole synchronous motor – the quiet, vibration-less type – and delivers wow and flutter of 0,07%(WRMS) and S/N ratio of 50 dB. The cabinet is constructed of beautiful walnut grain wood. Best of all is the PL-512D's pric. Very modest. When you see this Pioneer unit performs, then learn how little fine quality can cost, we think you'll discover that your turntable problems are solved forever.
 Speed-detecting Auto-Return Mechanism.
The PL-115D uses a speed-detecting auto-return mechanism that offers precision operation while it returns the tonearm to its rest position smoothly. This mechanism operates perfectly even during playback of warped records.

High-Sensitive S-Shaped pipe-arm with Anti-skatingdevice.
An angular-contact bearing is employed at the revolving point of the tonearm's ball-bearing which ensures that the precision tonearm and its easy-to-operate anti-skating device can trace record grooves faithfully during playback, either vertically or horizontally, with even light stylus pressure cartridges. The turntable is also equipped with a direct readout stylus pressure counterweight, used for weight adjustment and easy replacement of cartridges.
 Convenient Cueing Device
The viscous-damped cueing device is connected to the arm elevation lever to help prevent damage to both stylus and your records often caused by misoperation.

Howling-Free, Double Floating System for Superior Tonal Quality.
The cabinet of PL-115D is strong, howling-free and typical of the kind of fine craftmanship that has earned the impeccable Pioneer reputation of quality. Its solid surface panel features such excellent properties as optimum inner loss, impregnable strength and high density. Completely free from resonance, this material is one of the most ideal for acoustic cabinet construction. The turntable platter and tonearm are fixed to the chassisof the PL-115D, suspended from the surface panel with springs. The motor is fixed to the surface panel with a rubber cushion. Then there are further improvements used to contribute to outstanding tonal quality and exact record reproduction, such as insulators composed of butyl rubber and natural rubber that prevent vibration conveyed from the floors of your listening room. The cabinet of the PL-115D is elegantly styled in attractive walnut grain finish.
Belt-Drive System with 4-Pole Synchronous Motor.
The precision 4-pole synchronous , motor, free from fluctuation in line voltage and load, drives the turntable platter with a strong, polished polyurethane belt, with the combination of these features adding up to flawless record reproduction. The slightest vibration from the motor is absorbed, and thus the PL-115D's performance specifications are first rate; wow and flutter of 0,07% (WRMS) and S/N ratio of 50 dB.

Other Important Features
The inside of the bottom panel is lined with aluminum foil in order to prevent S/N deterioration caused by induction hum emanting from the motor and transformer.
The PL-115D uses a light, strong plug-in type aluminum headshell.
A low-stray capacitance phono cord is standard equipment.
A lateral balancer is provided to enhance both the horizontal and vertical sensitivity of the tonearm.
A detachable acryl dust cover is hinged in a free-stop fashion for easy of liffting and lowering.
A convenient headshell stand is provided on the surface panel.
