What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

AUDIO RESEARCH MCP-2 (1982)

AUDIO RESEARCH MCP-2
Pre-pramplifier is a stereo preamplifier designed to provide the additional gain required (with low noise) to alloe the use of low output moving coil phono pickup cartridges with existing stereo preamplifiers.
It is intended for use in the highest quality systems.
Analog Modules™ (type 3) are used to proide the voltage amplification with low noise. No efort has been made to design a unit with theoretical minium noise. Since "trade-offs" are involved in design for linearity vs. noise, primary emphasis has been placed on providing a unit with the intrinsic linearity to offer
state-of-the-art sound reproduction, while keeping noise to an acceptable and reasonable level.
Since a pre-preamplifier must amplify very small signals up to the level of the normal preamplifier's low level inputs, any instabilities or power supply weaknesses will result in significant degrading of system performance. Because of this, the MCP-2 contains a very sophisticated two-stage electronic regulation system to assure stability and power line isolation. This feature becomes especially important when using wide-band high power amplifiers at live music sound pressure levels.
